On a related note another 1930s
#MustRead for those not familiar with it is The Road To Oxiana by Robert Byron. Highly recommended. A treasure trove for history buffs, peppered with exceptionally colourful language throughout, and funnier than most anything in print these days.pic.twitter.com/bjCslS4dDg

Interesting map.. is this 30s map and full extent on both sides..?!
-
Here's a better complete scan of the map showing the area Byron travelled through in 1933-34. It was published in 1937.

Thanks! Was looking at
#Palestinian &#India There was just#Syria &#Palestinian - no Jordan & Lebanon. No Israel. India borders Iran & Afghanistan. No Pakistan. Hmm.. Both handiwork of Britain.@snarwani@Osman_Marwa1@Nirajsriv@Ram_Guha@DrMarcusP@BhadraPunchline -
Natural Syria or Great Syria was the area of current Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Occupied Palestine. Also the area of Iskenderun occupied by Turkey. Read the Report of the King Crane Commission 1919.
-
Other key points: - Persia (Iran) has almost the same geographical extend as on today then as well - Arabia is Arabia - not 'Saudi' - No UAE, Bahrain.. - Russia in the full extend..

I'm not a statistician, but I'd predict that at least 80% of iraqis yearn for the good ole days of Saddam Hussein.
