    For to raise awareness by recognising is one thing. But using their influence to publicly EXCLUDE persons from that category is quite another. Particularly in the case of a journalist persecuted for "espionage" for exposing torture & war crimes.

    Maldives has signed the declaration in relation to Article 22 of the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. Victims of torture by the state can now directly lodge complaints with the Convention Against Torture Committee.

    Melzer: 's rights have been "severely violated". His lawyers say they have inadequate access. Concerns that moving him out of medical wing may be designed to undercut medical arguments in the extradition hearing.
