    Unsure if we've just gotten used to Wellington retail and hospo staff (generally), but we've been amazed by the cheery attitudes and helpfulness shown by their equivalents up and down Te Ika-a-Māui.

    After visiting Waitangi and reading other histories, I'm curious what a proper partnership under the articles of Te Tiriti looks like (apart from addressing the systemic racism). Is a significant step the establishment of Māori wards in all local govt and more electorate seats?

    I visited one coffee shop last year that wouldn't let you order unless you'd scanned or registered. Perhaps some more of that's required

    It's a two-second action which could prevent another lockdown, but most people aren't doing it.

    Te Rau Aroha with its Te Utu o Te Kiriraraunga exhibition at Waitangi is pretty amazing. Particularly moving was He Whakamaumaharatanga... definitely one of the more poignant war memorials I've visited.

    We originally planned to head over to Tāne Mahuta, but no-one felt up to the 3-hour round trip, so we instead found the kauri forest in the Manginangina Reserve near Kerikeri. Them trees are bloody massive!
