Day 13 of Covid and I’m allowing myself to draw for 3-4 hours at which I’m light headed and woozy. Can’t imagine if I were still a professor. On the bright side, I’ve discovered this show called Dr Who. I’m only 11 eps in, but it’s pretty good.

I led a lunar eclipse tour for to Hawaii where I got this photo of the lava lake eruption at last week. We went late at night after most of the crowds left and got to see Halema’uma’u and Mauna Loa lit by the rising moon.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the Sagan Planet Walk model solar system in Ithaca NY where the Sun is as big as a basketball. I just lead a group of members to the Alpha Centauri marker in Hilo, Hawaii, 4000 miles away.

In 1995 I met Frank Drake at Carl Sagan’s 60th birthday. He was a lovely guy who was delighted to sign this back of the envelope I’d written his equation on. I’d copied it from Carl’s book Cosmos. He said, “Oh, this is wrong,” then rewrote it & signed it.

In 2021 the city of Ithaca replaced their street lights with LEDs. They are far too bright with little shielding. The city agreed to create a page for “street light issues”. Please report overly bright lights or intrusive light trespass. cityofithaca.org/387/Report
