No, I had an interpreter, it was filmed live so you should be able to check the footage, plus some spoke English as I said in my report.
I approached them, in English, if they didn't speak English I just shrugged and moved on.

I don't think that matters. Nazarbayev got 97% in the most recent Kazakh vote - doesn't mean he's that popular, or that the vote was legit
