Hi, the truth is that theft has been an issue since before "society" ever existed. It has continued to be a problem ever since. So far, society has weathered the storm just fine. You live in a time where tech exists to keep theft at a minimum. He will be caught.

So far society hasn't been composed of businesses that generally stand idly by while they're robbed and laws that treat such crimes like minor nuisances.

Until recently, they haven't had the clear 1080p HD surveillance video that can easily be emailed to police AND the insurance plans to completely cover such losses. The policies that tell their employees to not interfere have been around awhile though.

If you ever worked retail, you'd know you get a little employees handbook or pamphlet on how to do your job. One section would be about Loss Prevention... aka theft. It would tell you in a situation like this video, to not do a thing. Why? The guy may be armed...

If the thief kills the employee, the victim's family can sue the business. How do I know this? It's happened many times before. If the employee, injures the thief, the thief can sue the business for damages How do I know this? It's happened many times before.

If a worker locks the door, trapping the thief inside, the manager, owner or employees can be charged with unlawfully detaining someone or even kidnapping. How do I know this? It's happened many times before.

Now, put yourself in the head of a business owner. The situation in the video occurs. You're going to lose money. Would you rather lose $200 worth of insured product or lose a $20 million court case + court costs and lawyer fees? The employees in this video did their jobs.

There's a Walgreens Pharmacy near my home. 2 years ago a similar situation occurred. The security officer whipped out his gun and fatally shot the thief in the back. Where is that security officer now? He not only got fired for going against policy, he's in jail for murder.
