Non-tariff barriers will be one of the trickiest but most important bits to sort (or even talk about) in the UK-EU FTA. & I spoke to for about what manufacturers need (more from 2:47:10 here )

Yesterday, the UK's voice in Europe reduced dramatically. But it's not, by any means, all gone. And, for both British business and citizens, it's essential to work on. What hundreds of groups and individuals do over the next 11 months to preserve relationships will matter hugely.

Both of the Chancellor’s statements can be true. I’m so bored of hearing myself explain that alignment is an umbrella term.

Some EU standards will continue to affect the UK after Brexit. The UK needs to up its game if it wants to try and influence them – watch or listen as we discuss how, with , , and them.

The biggest practical difference* that the UK will experience next Friday is the change in its influence in the EU. So this is an important conversation to have. *ok, second biggest after the average blood alcohol level

Nicole is spot on as usual! Esp on the last point. When will we get everything written down? When will we get specifics? When will we know the Govt's defensive & offensive priorities for this & any other trade deal. Remember divergence turns the sea border into a brick wall!

Questions that need answering on alignment: - Referring to LPF and/or the vast swathes of the rest of the single market? - Where on the scale from 'not converging' to 'literally rewriting every rule' are we going? - What's the alternative? - When will anything be written down?

The case for full funding of PrEP, the near-100%-effective HIV prevention treatment, is surely overwhelming now.

These nations have these things because it makes their trade deals better quality, their reception more positive, ratification easier and gets business invested in utilising FTAs. If we’re going toe-to-toe with them, we need to do our best to match them.

There’s so many great examples of these three principles that we can learn from. 🇺🇸 has 700 cleared advisers from companies 🇲🇽 has a group of trusted businesses that sit outside negotiation rooms 🇳🇿 has just appointed an Agricultural Trade Envoy

There have been a number of trade deals which have been started but haven’t survived. We don’t want UK-EU or UK-US to be one of those. So we have to learn lessons other countries already have. The keys to success? ✅ Consultation ✅ Formal engagement structures ✅ Transparency

After the Referendum there was lots of talk about Brexit dividing the UK. Then lots of talk about how it merely highlighted existing divides. I suggest we take it to the next level of “well actually” by agreeing it really just re-labelled existing divides but super inaccurately.
