How are the classes so small?!

Our department doesn’t typically give grad students classes of more than 30. My course right now is just so small bc it’s summer
-
That's awesome they actually recognize you haven't been teaching for decades and give you a reasonable workload
-
Agree. I think it is helpful to first get down how to teach before adding in the additional problems of classroom management and a ton of grading!
-
Though, I must admit—I am looking forward to teaching a huge lecture hall with multiple screens and a mic. Sounds way more fun (for me) in a lecture based course than a small group of students!

feasible approach. i did so in my methods/statistics courses. few slides (basically for introduction and organizational matters) but a lot of interactive work in class.
-
I’ve learned that as long as ypu give the students *something* the likelihood of complaints significantly decreases
-
right. what's more i came to the conclusion - at least for some topics like research methods - that it's more productive to work out something in class together than just to present a lot of slides.

I had considered taking attendance but I also don’t want to deal with an additional thing to worry about at the start of class
