An intriguing idea. However, I suspect that if we want the lay public, students, and many peer reviewers to understand our research, we will need to retain many of those “ancient words” to some extent.

Agreed. ‘Ancient’ terms likely useful for general explanation to non-expert audiences, but not for precise theory and communication within the field.

I think memory is more clear than attention, but I certainly agree that attention/working memory/Executive function are poorly differentiate concepts and have great neuroanatomical and conceptual overlap.

Agree. As a consequence I think many disagreements over which ‘perspective’ or what have you is better supported has much to do with quibbles over terminology more than anything else
