Really splitting words here.. 3/8pic.twitter.com/hfwkpXL6Z0
Oh good the NLSY data is great. It can also afford control of genetic effects via sibling samples. But because of the #NurtureAssumption it is better to stick with one mother, one child instead...

HOME as a measurement is as close to the definition of the ‘shared environment’ as one can get. Research showed a decade ago that such measures so sig heritability estimates https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/psychological-medicine/article/genetic-influences-on-measures-of-the-environment-a-systematic-review/76ECA7D8F0F92906DBB2AAFBED720F0C … 5/8pic.twitter.com/qmReuj5jXp
Self-esteem: As mentioned in the intro, SE shows sig heritibility.. here is a sampling of h2 est that we’re using in a current project 6/8pic.twitter.com/uJXxMRn9p6
Results of home environment on SE. Overall r of ~.15 – with no genetic controls, I say #GeneticConfounding is highly likely here..

Future research? What about the current research? NLSY79 can’t control for genetic influence – wrong. We (@FSNole57 @econnolly11 @TKShackelford @BioPetko) did it with NLSY79 just this past year.. odd

There's an R package for doing behavior genetic analyses with NLSY: https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/NlsyLinks/index.html …
It's surprising that a study can be published with just a note of a limitation that can be corrected with the same data that was used..
I guess it's progress that they at least admit the possibility of genetic confounding, but most social scientists still fail to understand that genetically informative designs are essential in individual differences research, not something one might just optionally do.
Agreed! I was happy to see genetic influences on SE mentioned at the outset too. Especially in this outlet, rarely do I see BG mentioned.
