The just-so story criticism of evolutionary psychology is mistaken, and it "rests on a flawed and unnecessarily austere vision of what real science is." Inference to the best explanation a better explanation of sciencehttps://twitter.com/ArcDigi/status/981187094331711488 …

I just consider psychology a branch of biology. It's a weird definition of science some of these people are working with. I really think it is this "if you can't solve the problem with a test tube and a fire, then it's not science" attitude....
-
Agreed. There is so much more to science than traditional stereotypes of what it looks like. Wonderful article btw!!

Thank you very much! I appreciate it.

The prof is right.

Science is simply systematic observation and the generation and testing of hypotheses/theories. Psychology does this ergo it is a science
-
no, science is the successful prediction of novel phenomena
-
Also known as testing hypotheses
-
nope
-
Fine. Novel hypotheses. And psychology does that all the time.
-
a hypothesis that predicts novel facts is independently testable - a hypothesis that can’t be independently tested is ad-hoc

She's right. "Best explanation" is subjective, so it's unscientific.
