This sound bad, but to be fair one would want to compare to other papers in the same journal, since Perspectives articles are often about promoting a particular, well, perspective - which is more likely than not to result in self-citing. I'd guess the base rate is high.

Agree. The journal aims explicitly state it publishes ‘overviews of exceptional research programs’ — the 7 separate papers published still seems a bit too much?
