Not always. But it is one type of research design that can distinguish whether shared genetic variation contributes to observed similarities, given that environments aren’t shared btw twins

some environmental influences shared by twins reared apart include age, sex, ethnicity, physical resemblance, socioeconomic class, culture, and prenatal environment

No one is denying that shared environmental factors exist. We're arguing that those shared environmental factors don't have long-term impacts on adult outcomes.

a scientifically acceptable study would compare the resemblance of a group of identical twins reared apart from birth (unknown to one another) to a control group of biologically unrelated pairs of strangers matched on all post-natal environmental variables shared by MZA pairs

Yeah & imo there are more limitations with twins reared apart studies than the classical ones.

The main limitation is probably that reared-apart twins are extremely rare. There are fewer pairs of reared-apart twins in all studies ever published than there are reared-together pairs in a typical classical twin study.

All twins should be forcibly separated to satisfy the needs of science
