"On Preprints" by @psmaldino --great overview of pros and cons!
I have not uploaded a paper as a preprint (yet) due to two concerns:

2. Benefits of PPs; what about reporting of science at public/journalist levels? or researchers citing PPs? Say results in PP advertised, but final published version is different, but update never communicated? Could PPs lead to inaccurate presentation of results over time? 3/3

Yeah, this is the thing about which I most worry. I like anonymity. On the other hand, the advantages, for me, outweigh the costs. The journal-system, as it now operates, is doomed to disappear. Too slow and cumbersome. PP might not be answer, but they are a good step

Agreed that anonymity is very important for objective reviews. Seems to depend on what you’re willing to tradeoff (faster dissemination, more feedback)
-
The problem with anonymity is that if you fancy yourself a prose stylist, you lose it anyway because of your distinctive writing. My prose is more purple than most, so it probably isn't hard to discern : )

I tend to be identified by the topic!

Hahaha that too!

This is possible, but at least you will have laid down the problem/answer so you won't be scooped.
