Kind of pointless debate because the good students don't need teachers much (because autodidactism), and the bad students aren't learning much of use (education is mostly signaling) or will forget it soon anyway.

Sure, it’s ‘pointless’ for the student getting a degree as a signal to employers, but a small proportion of students do benefit from good, demanding profs who challenge them. Profs should teach to those students who want to learn and are intellectually curious. Teachers matter.
