The evolution of intelligence in humans and other great apes, estimated by blood flow to the brain. All the great apes have gotten smarter since our last common ancestor; we've just taken the trend much further.

I can think of few things less “lively” than rehashing a conversation about the EEA, especially since twin studies are no longer the major workhorses of psychiatric genetics. BUT lest other people be confused that this is still actually a contentious issue....

  7. Okkkkk all. It’s my take that Mélise is unwilling to engage in an open-minded discussion with me and the bucket of irony that she gave me by blocking me mid conversation is not lost on me. Quit with the racist remarks. Uncalled for and unnecessary. Thanks.

It is perfectly reasonable to value broad diversity in academia or elsewhere and disagree with the current mechanisms universities are using to increase narrow diversity. Both can be true.

  11. Discovered the beautiful Black-Billed Magpie today on my run in SLC. Coming from Michigan, I hadn’t seen these before, and was surprised at their size and stunning blue and turquoise wings.

I totally respect the important efforts to diversity academia (of course lol), but I also respect those who criticize the mechanisms.

I agree that the system isn’t perfect. My intention to retweet this is agree with the author in their assertion that 2 metrics of diversity is not a good mechanism to diversify academia. This eliminates other forms of diversity (socioeconomic class, politics viewpoints)

I think it's good to reflect on which aspects of your self you accept and want to change and which aspects you accept and want to "own". I see a lot of people owning everything about themselves merely because it's who they are. But it's also possible to accept and make a change.

“Research” which is ironic. Whenever I type it, I switch the ‘r’ and ‘a’ giving me ‘reserach’

UC Berkley gives precedence to diversity statements in hiring process: A person’s candidacy is terminated if their statement does not reach a set cut-off score. Rather than promoting diversity, this process serves to promote ideological conformity.
