Looking forward to reading this non-fiction 📚 by . Very timely too as I start to use my own time differently (though hopefully still productively!) and ponder the increasing pressures of short termism on politicians. Thanks for the recommendation

Here's the Lancet paper on minimum unit price and explanation of methodology. Really welcome to see the reduction in mortality was greatest for people living in deprivation.

2/2 And an aside: if we were attempting to introduce MUP now, there’s every chance this UK Gov would be threatening to block it. So it should stand as a reminder, not just of the power of bold public health policy, but also the need to vigorously defend powers

Liz has been by my side throughout my time as FM. Her advice, support, perspective, humour and sheer hard work has been indispensable to me. She is brilliant and I know she’ll go on to do great things. Thank you, Liz

This is the right thing to do, & means a lot to me personally. For anyone experiencing miscarriage the grief is real - and for many there will be comfort in being able to recognise the loss of the child you hoped your pregnancy would become. Thanks to those who made it possible

Formidable employment data in Scotland today; employment 76.5% (2nd highest ever), unemployment 3.1% (joint lowest), economic inactivity 21% (down 1.4% in a year). Scotland outperforms U.K. on all indicators.

Love this coining of ‘Kenmured’ as a new verb to denote people power and principled protest - an appropriate tribute to the spirit of Pollokshields and the Southside.

This is why we must have buffer zones. There is no "balance" to be had here, the Sandyford is a health service and must be available without hindrance.

No idea if Lineker thing works out well or badly for No.10. All I know is we did something despicable this week which will damage thousands of lives. And because of Braverman, Fleet Street and the Beeb, we've spent it fixated on a fairly harmless tweet by a sports presenter.

As a strong supporter of public service broadcasting, I want to be able to defend the BBC. But the decision to take off air is indefensible. It is undermining free speech in the face of political pressure - & it does always seem to be rightwing pressure it caves to
