Under this is not a problem, because I choose to use dhcpcd. Again, this can also probably be fixed in Ubuntu, but I was surprised to see that problem at all.

A mini follow up on the change from Ubuntu to Alpine Linux: one thing that is reproducible unreliable in is working in environments. It eventually connects, but whatever software was running, waits a long time before the connection works.

None of this means Ubuntu is "bad", it's just not as easy as Alpine Linux for me.

So clearly I could try to fix all those things on Ubuntu, but it is so much easier for me just to switch to Alpine Linux.

light (the cli) under ubuntu doesn't work, because the brightness file in /sys is not owned by the video group, not writable by the primary user and acpid is not really a concept anymore with systemd.

Under Alpine Linux I am using i3+acpid+light+wpa_supplicant on 4 different notebooks and all work smoothly.

Ubuntu comes with gnome, gnome has workspaces, but compared to i3, they are very limited and multiple displays *share* a workspace. That is rather broken from my point of view.

I've gotten my hands on a Lenovo X1 Yoga, the convertible notebook with a touchscreen. So I imagined Ubuntu would be the easiest choice. I was wrong.

4 days of and it's what it is: I'm going to install on the notebook . TL;DR: Ubuntu is not easier for everyone. A short thread.

.... that said, mbsync does not work well with 3 and I'm not the first one to notice:

Just upgraded a notebook to 22.04 - so far, so good, emacs, mbsync and firefox are running. What else do you need?

Fun fact: asking for an urgent VM upgrade on a Sunday, chances are so much higher to get it done when you are friendly. In general, being respectful with people just pays off. Speaking of personal experience.
