Putting aside debates about the causal relationship between money & marriage (that's you, @inclusionist), married people have more money, at the very least because they have the potential for two incomes. https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/publications/2017/demo/P60-259.pdf …

The second issue concerns assortative mating, also known as homogamy. People tend to marry people just like themselves. Here's a review article: https://dspace.library.uu.nl/bitstream/handle/1874/13605/kalmijn_98_intermarriage.pdf?sequence=1 … /5
Homogamy is strongest on demographic characteristics like race, education, & age. It's weaker but still present on psychological attributes, like aggressiveness. /6
For the most part, homogamy is a good thing in that it generally reduces divorce rates. Here's an older (& gated) study, but its findings mostly still stand. http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/019251391012001003 … /7
Homogamy on race/ethnicity (i.e., intermarriage) has decreased substantially. This is a welcoming sign of declining racial barriers. Moreover, my research with Vincent Fu shows that white-black intermarriage doesn't increase divorce. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/51899409_Broken_Boundaries_or_Broken_Marriages_Racial_Intermarriage_and_Divorce_in_the_United_States … /8
Here's the bad news. Some individual attributes that bode poorly for marital stability can also be bases for homogamy. Here's an older study showing that people with similar mental illnesses often intermarry. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6751267 /9
My own research documents *family structure homogamy*. People from divorced families often marry each other, & these unions are more likely to dissolve. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/240440949_Family_structure_homogamy_The_effects_of_parental_divorce_on_partner_selection_and_marital_stability … /10
Back to social class. Homogamy on education has gotten stronger over time. In other words, college grads are increasingly marrying each other. Other things being equal, this contributes to greater inequality. /11
In sum, homogamy has mostly (but not entirely) positive benefits for marital stability, but as @kevincarey1 suggested in today's @nytimes will also contribute to inequality.

@jordanbpeterson So should I tell my best friend I want to bang her?
If she declines, may I blame your impressive research?
I implore u to say, Professor Nick Wolfinger, author of multiple books on families, affirmed my desire to hit on u. If she declines, tell her to hate-follow me on Twitter; if she's into you, invite me to the wedding.
Let's see a fully footnoted academically & scientifically rigorous peer-reviewed love-letter.
#ForeverAlone?
Got any grant money for that?
Oh I'll write it for free. And I will deliver.
You know that conducting a census (i.e., statistics) is in the constitution, right?
Honestly, how the fuck do you know? Would you like your doctor "just guessing" about the right antibiotic to prescribe? I'm well aware of the difficulties in doing this kind of research, but the alternative is to not do it.
Um, did you read the actual post? It’s short. Here’s a summary: I have national data. I don’t make up anything, because that’s not research.
