This might be the most interesting solution to @NickSzabo4 problem of microtransactions I’ve seen. It still needs to be done in a way though where you aren’t actively considering each transaction. Whitelists, max costs, and automatic transactions could helphttps://twitter.com/ariannasimpson/status/993548136361676801 …

Very true. I imagined there would be people who would curate lists; and then you would be able to use that as a starting point to reduce some of the mental cost

You've discussed the mental transaction cost of micropayments but I have to admit that I think that cost is a plus. It would act to keep me away from reading useless material I wouldn't even pay a few SATs for.
-
It's like donuts. I never buy them even though they are really really cheap. But god help me if someone brings them to work and their free. A little cost does wonders for self control.
-
This is a really good point. So maybe you allow say the New York Times to be whitelisted, but make sure say Buzzfeed or something is deliberately not white listed
-
If not whitelisted I'd rather have it bot display ads at all still. So maybe id I click on a BuzzFeed link they still get their half cent or whatever. If the payment is small enough I'm willing to pay for every click, every page view,... I would willingly turn that on with no ads
-
And you would want it to ask you each time?
-
No, it should autocharge. Just like ads show every time without asking me whether or not to show. Ads are a cost as well that does not Financial. You should be able to set a Max that pays without asking. Then you'd assume every click charges that amount.
-
Okay I agree completely and that is the way I interpreted the proposal. In my response to my original tweet that’s how I assumed she was describing it
-
Awesome. I really hope this happens. Mostly from a content support perspective and self control standpoint. I don't have good self control to free things. For example: I made my bus rides amazingly more productive by changing to a pay per data plan vs unlimited data.
