Twitter users should be rewarded for correctly reporting abuse @jack @TwitterSupport. Great use-case for micropayments.

Your original paper (linked above) never defined the term.
-
Alas, I should have, but its meaning was commonly understood among users of the word at the time, and I didn't realize marketers were going to mutilate it beyond recognition after so many micropayment schemes failed.

Micro as a prefix for measurement denotes a 10^-6 relationship to the unmodified. Ex. 10^6 Micrometers= 1 meter. Coincidentally, 0.000001 bitcoin is just under one cent in USD which seems like a good line for "micropayment"
-
I see what you're saying but picking 1 BTC as the "base unit" for a "payment" is as arbitrary as picking $1.00 USD. "Micro" isn't scientific here, it just means "really small". Or according to Nick (iiuc) too small for the human brain to comprehend or rationally value.

Hey that's the exact amount I wrote in my first tweet!
Micropayments IMO will be useful for software talking to software, abstracted away somewhat from the humans. -
Prices transmit human preferences -- there's no point in them otherwise.
-
It's still human preference just implemented by machine agents.
