Crests and Seals were the only way to timestamp in the early days. Once broken could not be resealed without the original. The double spend in action again and again. Second seal could not duplicate first seal without original stamper. ;-))

I'm going to say that this is fascinating, it misses out Chinese contributions to seals and DLT Additionally, each "ticket" was stamped with a seal in the key parts. Of course, the amounts and recipients of the "tickets" were strictly controlled. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rishengchang …
