There is no such thing as fully trustless tech. In encryption you trust that your recipient won't forward your message. In blockchains people who don't read the code are trusting software upgrades. Reducing needed trust lowers governance costs & increases social scalability.

Which is why cores work to make Bitcoins 1st layer upgrade-free is so important

It wasn't "upgrade free". BIP141 caused non-SegWit nodes to be unable to verify SegWit transactions properly, so you would have to upgrade for it to actually be secure, defeating the whole point of a soft fork.

A hole book, is a book that is dedicated to addressing a critical hole in a particular discourse. =)

How do you reduce needed trust? The majority can't read code. Sending away for peer review is a lot of work (ADA style). What are the other options?

Scale on chain by changing one parameter (block size) vs building a whole new layer to transact on.

Hard fork over and over, have nodes centralise, kill protocol VS make 1st layer upgrade-free through proper development/computer science

Hard forking is how the bitcoin protocol is upgraded. Do you not think bitcoin should ever be upgraded to allow new functionality and improvements?

Au contraire, segwit was an upgrade achieved through a soft fork. Segwit also facilitates other upgrades as SF instead of HF. Wise to lock down 1st layer and move innovation to 2nd layer.

"something beautiful and cool about the smart contract is coming... however, to use it, people have to read or trust our codes." Agree - naive otherwise - whether code or humans, trust is built.

yes, indeed, so we never thought about trying to brand #trustless, however, smart contrast is something more advanced than paper contract. So, learning to read code may be is one of the future key skills.
