Airplanes and blockchains move precious cargo around the world. Airplanes are a mature programming environment. Hardware is costly to fly. Yet they trade off performance for reliability and were early adopters of hardware-expensive consensus algorithms.https://elaineou.com/2017/02/12/byzantine-fault-tolerant-airplanes/ …

Airplanes better keep using hardware-expensive consensus algorithms. No need for Sergeant General Bluetooth in first class synching his wireless beats to actuator controls 😂. Blockchain, sigh, mining pools are the mice chewing at the wires. No?

if we extend the analogy then miners must be certified, formally educated, their work hours detailed, hardware certified, etc.. That makes me uncomfortable for many, many reasons. I do hope their's a better approach.

There are a few things in play with mining centralization besides low energy cost. Proximity to chip fab and the math advantage of large pools are two more. There was a spec for a Proof of Ram on my twitter feed last summer, but it's lost.

The idea being that RAM is the most commoditized product their is. If you cap RAM participation between 2 and 16GB you get a very decentralized mining plant. Everyone with RAM.

This is why your talk at Stanford is so important too. Redundancy of the communications hardware is important as well. Thanks for sharing.

Most fun thing I’ve read today. Not sure I buy into the “Uber can’t because FAA” but I love looking at the world through technology as fault tolerant at scale vs. not fault tolerant.

Bitcoin Segwit is expensive, slow and unreliable with bad fungibility. Bitcoin Cash has none of those problems.

Nick you and I are on the same team now. You do whatever you can to ensure BTC doesn't hard fork - I want small blocks on the Core network. I'm invested in this High Cost Low utility BTC and Low cost high utility BCH. Like everyone else invested in Bitcoin I have a 1:1 stake.
