Why the excitement for "Digital Identity"? Bitcoin's strength is we can pay / be paid and not care about people's names or "identities".

It seems to me that all of Kate's examples don't really require an anchor to IRL identity. Eg: Equifax farms "reputation", not ID per se.

Reputation needs an anchor. Equifax ties to SSN. It's your corporate identity by law. How is that not identity?

There are anonymous people on the net that I would feel confident lending money to, Reputation does not have to be tied to IRL identity.

Yes but you know you're dealing with *one* identity even if you don't know who they are. Anonymous & identity not mutually exclusive.

@EFF as readily as I would to any other identity that I calculated had a good rep. Individual or group. Rep only. -
Anonymous or not. And make no mistake - this calculus can be codified. Automated. Banks/govs/rating agencies want, not need, personal info.
