Indeed. Many financial transactions could be done orders of magnitude cheaper by dropping dependence on identity.

Many txs could be done w/o identity. But much of the issue seems to be interfacing with an ever more paranoid and bureaucratic state.

You're not going to put bodies on the blockchain. DNA? Fingerprint hashes? Tattoos?

No, the point is that, where smart contracts can be used, it's far cheaper to do trust-min smart contracts that don't depend on identity.
