If you want to allow full sync over Tor that's a different matter, Tor nodes generally aren't happy with that kind of dl volume of any kind.

Well you're a full time researcher... Maybe you could help fill the void? Like FOSS only way anything gets done is to do it yourself.

I know of a few colleagues working in this direction, each with small pieces of infrastructure. A broad "blockchain measurement initiative"

I think would be incredibly valuable though, and if nobody's done it by next FC you have my full permission to ask me WTF happened :).
