please answer this simple / direct question: COMPROMISE FROM WHAT??
Some v. knowledgeable coredevs think SegWit's block size increase too big. Mostly kept quiet for compromise.

Yes. Any blocksize increase lowers security. SegWit is a less risky but not zero risk increase.

There is no compression in SegWit. Do some research.
