@NickSzabo4 I'd argue the winning combo is (strong domain knowledge) + (programming ability), which might preclude actually studying compsci

@draaglom No: the best combo is domain knowledge + comp sci. Mere programmers have far less ability to reason about what is possible. -
What about UX Design? I am currently a student in this field.
-
Also very important, especially when hooked up with good computer science.

Awesome! Yes I want to think like Alan Kay

Do you have favorite books for the person that’s curious but not going to go get a degree in it?
-
For a good overview, and also good for starting out in computer science, I like the following https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9_Algorithms_that_Changed_the_Future …https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/533070.Computer_Science …

Currently almost done with Chapter 1 of this book. I’m taking the tortoise approach

b b but... mah law dehgreeeee

I have that too. It can earn you a good living, but changing the world through law is changing the world the much harder way -- you are competing against millions of others also trying to change the world through changing the laws, and it's practically all been tried already.

@NickSzabo4 that's an absurd and arrogant assertion -
@bamos01@NickSzabo4 In an increasingly digital world, why not? One has far more reach at a much lower cost. Both multipliers.

@NickSzabo4@pmarca If only computer sciences could disrupt the way we do politics :/ -
@AbdelBatel@NickSzabo4@pmarca They already did. Silicon echo chambers much more effective than paper ones.
