@NickSzabo4 To a certain extent. Remember many had patrons, etc. My point tho is that the mentality was a fairly recent development
@antonhowes Patrons were often quite active (e.g. Robert Hooke building gas pumps for his patron Robert Boyle's chemical experiments).
