@SysGuy714 Not for launch. Creates a Moore's Law for interplanetary transport: https://szabo.best.vwh.net/comet.mining.html … (Probably also Ceres etc.) -
@SysGuy714 By eliminating need to launch tank + propellant (not just propellant) from Earth.

@NickSzabo4 Since this was written 20 years ago, do you plan to update it regarding current progress/stagnation? Would be interesting.. -
@sroecker Nah, Rate of progress: those ideas were inspired by plans for the very Rosetta that after >2 decades finally arrived at a comet. -
@sroecker Back then it was supposed to be a sample return, now it will just analyze samples on-site. -
@NickSzabo4 I see. Strange to see the lack of (commercial) interest though given the low cost and high reward of such missions. -
@sroecker It's too long-term for any major institution to care about, and too "boring but important" for SF people to care about.

@NickSzabo4 Worth mentioning to Planetary Resources or SpaxeX? Elon would appreciate having volatiles waiting for his colonists -
@bmcusick I'd be happy to talk to them. Elon's great contribution is < the costs of transporting real space industry (comsats). -
@bmcusick The "boring but important" stuff as he calls it. -
@NickSzabo4 Incredibly important. If the F9R works we'll finally get some of that future Heinlein and Asimov assumed we'd be at already. -
@NickSzabo4 You can't build an off-world economy on Space Shuttle costs and flight rates.
