Health rationale (accurate or not) is very far removed from an environmental rationale (accurate or not). Bad fail on the analogy test.

So banning murder is dumb? There's no hypocrisy when the two areas are so radically different. You fail the analogy test too. WTF is wrong with people's reasoning skills these days?

Do murder laws stop murderers? That's hyperbole though. The government's stated goal of trying to "protect" people from themselves, is just cover and spin, when it's really about taxes and protecting tobacco corporations from competition. Banning straws is just as dumb.

Perhaps, the reasons they are dumb are extremely different, and it's entirely possible to come to different conclusions on each without a trace of hypocrisy.

You can support such laws for good intentions, but that doesn't mean they are good laws.
