"Serves no purpose"?! WTF?! Good grief you are one of these vile creatures: https://unenumerated.blogspot.com/2006/10/hello-kitty-people.html … You have outed yourself as an enemy of Bitcoin security. Blocked.

Nick, I'd urge you to reconsidering blocking Hasu. He's a potent and thoughtful Bitcoiner.

to the triggered people below: bitcoin will fail if it has no intellectual diversity. ideas need to be fought over in the market, not ignored and feared. luckily, the puritans have no control, and they're not persuasive.

I agree with the previous tweet but “bitcoin will fail if it has no intellectual diversity” isn’t very meaningful. Bitcoin doesn’t have intellect, it’s an asset class. Stakeholders will be diversified because.. why won’t they be? and the occasional block has nothing to do with it

Bitcoin isn't an asset class, it's a property registry and a value conveyance mechanism. Given that it still changes, a healthy debate is important and eugenic (in terms of yielding good outcomes). If it were totally ossified then we could abandon debate. But it's not.

Exactly: “but it’s not”. and there’s no reason to think it will, which is why I said it’s not very meaningful to say bitcoin will fail without intellectual diversity. It will also fail without computers but why is that interesting?

I also encourage Nick to reconsider blocking Hasu, because I like both and I think it’s a loss for Nick. But it’s not harming Bitcoin in any way

I don't think the block meaningfully harms Bitcoin. You're knocking down a strawman.

Nic is right here and happy to debate you on this in TLV. A tiny group of likeminded folk have a smaller network effect, which impacts the asset's usability and perceived value.

A user or customer doesn't need to agree with a product's design philosophy in order to make good use of it. But if the designers change that philosophy to fit the common misunderstandings it can easily ruin the product, including for that user.

I'm not qualified to have an opinion on software design. I'm qualified to say marginalized users struggle w/liquidity and, specific blocking aside, the best money is the most useful money beyond niche friend circles. Maybe my 2 cents here on the broader concept was distracting.🙂pic.twitter.com/rZ06JwjcY3

Your point made a lot of sense btw & seems correct to me. It was my bad to jump in to a convo where the specific thing I'm commenting on was minor within the context of the original debate. (It's just so rare to catch Udi almost being wrong! 😝)pic.twitter.com/HYCvBXqeH6

This is true. Many users' views of how a product should operate are in direct irreconcilable conflict with one another, and many of them are often in conflict with sound engineering principles. Thus the Tao of Programming's wisdom, §3.3..
