I was trying to find examples of Malpais in Texas but the internet is frustrating me, because one of the prominent examples is "Malpais National Monument" further north in New Mexico. I know there's examples of the terrain type in the Trans-Pecos, but don't remember where.

I believe the takeaway here is that an eight year old boy is thinking about climate change and where to live because of it.

And the reason I'm dwelling on Malpais is because there's parts of West Texas and New Mexico that have been historically uninhabitable since the eruptions that created the Malpais a couple hundred thousand years back. An ice age came and went betwen then and now.

Every generation has its own ghosts, fobias and fears. Back in the 70s or 80s we grew up with the fear of an imminent nuclear apocalipsis. Now we changed that for a climate apocalipsis.
