While I agree it's a dumb argument, I do agree that the "taxation is theft" line is stupid. It is fine as a rally call for libertarian minded people but it is ineffective when it comes to changing anyone's mind.

Strawman. I don't know any libertarian who's suggested using the slogan "taxation is theft" as the main political strategy. Anyone who takes that slogan prima facie as a comprehensive argument in and of itself is an idiot. A slogan is a slogan.

Sure some do. But many I've spoken to can't go beyond saying that taxation is theft because the govt is stealing the money from you. Simply reiterating the definition of theft.

Let's put it this way. Anybody with a good and honest understanding of the English language can tell that "taxation is theft" is a more accurate simile than "taxation is a contract." Neither are identities.
