The Institute is named for Cato the Younger, aka Cato Uticensis, the last defender of the Roman republic against Caesar, hero to the American revolutionaries. Not for Cato the Elder, aka Cato the Censor!
Tried to defend, failed, and then committed suicide, indeed rather akin to the Cato Institute's efforts.
