Has any bubble in economic history ever sustained such a high risk-adjusted return for such a long period? To any economist who generally believes market signals this cries out for a fundamental explanation. http://charts.woobull.com/bitcoin-risk-adjusted-return/ …pic.twitter.com/UJSjKadSqh

Agreed. It cries out for one but it won't get one. Cowardly mob!

I have one. Have tweeted about it a lot. Saf and many Bitcoin investors have some. But of the many other professional or professorial economists I've seen talking about Bitcoin, even lame attempts at a fundamental explanation of this strong market signal seem few and far between.

I think the problem is that most economists are trained in modern theoretical models and almost absolutely zero economic history. I think most modern economists would profit greatly from reading “Money and Man” by Elgin Groseclose.

I think most economists are technocrats who view money as a tool to be used to manipulate the economy and can't fathom that both money and the economy can function without their guidance.

Indeed. They have a mechanistic view of the economy. Not an organic view. They see monetary policy as a lever that can be pulled/adjusted to reach definite outcomes.

It's almost too MACRO for an economist and is not strictly about economics. It's a very rare invention that crosses so many boundaries/is so interdisciplinary that there is still no unified language to describe it.

Well said. Whilst I believe I have a deep understanding of BTC, I often find myself coming up short trying to find the language to “describe it”...

All of us here know that fiat money/currency debasement is a fraudulent scheme. Imagine being surprised that a money that prevents/bypasses this system would be considered valuable 🙄

Sharpe ratio doesn't take into account hacking incidents or lost access to private keys, also SR can be criticized for having typically high values for ponzi schemes

Imo it's almost *pure user growth*. I hope bitcoin succeeds, but its far from guaranteed that we see the same user growth in the next 10 years as we've seen in the past 10 years Imo "risk adjusted returns" (tbd don't like the term) over such a short time frame are not helpful

Probably demoralizing to engage with a machine built to evict you from control. You could even say it's outside the scope of work for anyone whose intention is to 'guide policy.'

It’s amazing the damage that’s been done to the economics profession. The market demands a fixed standard of value. It’s as important to exchange as fixed measures of length and weight are necessary to engineering.
