Indeed, tacking on the word "social" generally indicates gross misapplication to a large social scale and via governmental coercion of something that is only known to work well, and probably only works well, on a small social scale.

Coincidentally, I was just reading Hayek’s chapter on language in The Fatal Conceit, which touches precisely on this use of “social” as a weasel word. It opens with Confucius: “When words lose their meaning, people will lose their liberty.”
