I would say it was a function of the best we had at the time, a natural arrival to the conclusion to trade silver coins instead of rocks but shaving led to other forms of money and barter including central rate targeting, which let us innovate our way to where we are, next level.

That sounds good. Unfortunately it was in truth a way to cover gov't spending and bank lending which couldn't be repaid in lawful money.
