Frighteningly enough, communist teachers and other authorities not infrequently coerced their students into denouncing their parents in just such ways. They had that in common with the modern left, they were viciously anti-family.

yep, China’s cultural revolution often separated the children from the parents. Children sent to rice fields for work and indoctrination , and parents separated to inflict highest amount of terror and anguish. Heard my in laws stories.

And the sad state of the USA is if you ask young Americans about ‘the cultural revolution’ , most will give a blank stare. Most have no appreciation for our freedoms! US history education has been hijacked by STEM and econ.

US history education is alive and well. In California, public schools are legally required to teach the Holocaust. my middle school had an annual field trip to the Holocaust museum in LA. We learned all about Holocaust and anti-fascism, over and over again.

And it's always easier to do this if the economy is setup so that a single breadwinner isn't enough to sustain a family. Once the parents have no choice but to have the children spend most of their time being raised by others, the variables of being dependent on others are there.

I'm Chinese living in China. Chinese do care about family but the government don't like it. They are encouraging kids to report their parent's misbehavior to the government.
