They won't be. Multi-layer LN & similar tech + txn aggregation will be worked out. First step is already working (& nearly normie ready even this early) & channel factories are just additional application of basically the same innovations already in use

You didn't answer mike's question here, instead you defeated the premise and moved passed it without acknowledging it. And its a very important question to understand.

You were asked a sincere question that is quite on point and you observably skirted it. Now you are posting memes.

His point assumes everyone wants to be their own bank. In reality, most people don’t want to be cypherpunks and will happily park their money with a custodian offering higher interest which is possible thru fractional reserve. The whole-backed providers won’t be able to compete.

How are you going to get anyone to accept debt notes in place of Bitcoin? Bitcoin is not & never will be fungible with Bitcoin IOUs

Most previous forms of gold backed paper have already been defaulted on (cough) the dollar (cough) because it's like a law of money that trust arrangements will eventually be violated.

I think one of the ‘bugs’ in gold as a means of value communication is that its weight reduced its portability so people preferred to have it safely stored by trusted 3rd parties that couldn’t be trusted and fractional reserve counterfeiting was the gold standards Achilles heel

It's very light per unit value. Biggest problem was & is that it is hard to validate -- assaying is far too costly and inconvenient for most transactions. As a result requires trust in third parties (mints, certifiers, IOU issuers), a trust often abused.

And those third party middleman services are also quite expensive and slow... they're not socially scalable
