Discussing "the baby boomers" (or any such demographic) as though they were a single person with unitary agency is rather silly. That's not how social trends work.

What Nick said. Moreover, when people talk about the baby boomers and similar demographic groups, they often use an anthropomorphic language of group agency that has no relation to the Law of Large Numbers.

Fuzzy categories like “Baby Boomer” can certainly be used in lazy and inaccurate ways, as
@StephenPiment notes. My point is that there may well be valid generalizations for which the colloquial category is generally accurate, and we should be careful not to dismiss them. -
I’m also sure you’re savvy enough to know why I picked poker hands rather than other examples I might have chosen to illustrate the point.
