‘Person of colour’ is fine. ‘Coloured’ isn’t. Why? Because of the historical connotations of ‘coloured’. Coloured only restrooms (US) or No Irish, No dogs, No Coloured. Fine but when did "blacks choose 'people of colour'"? Just interested in how, who and when these decisions are made or do they just vaguely evolve like a lot of language?
They didn't. The mostly white mass media chose it for them, based on the kind of specious reasoning in the OP.
