Can you think of a behavioral trait (e.g. kin altruism, strong reciprocity, fariness concern) which served a purpose for small groups but right now has a negative value added in a globalized world? @NickSzabo4

Sorry I did not get your point. You are saying for instance that a person with strong reciprocity would be better if he did not have this trait?

Virtuous people often let their virtues be exploited for their own destruction.

And small group societies were not free from conflict. They were easier to keep track of mentally, but not necessarily less conflictive.

Indeed. My question is whether some genes that we have today were successful in enhancing cooperation in hunter-gatherer societies but the same gene today is detrimental for cooperation among millions of strangers

For instance take envy. This could have been a useful emotion to stop deceiving in small groups but today could be detrimental

As Nick said, at the macro level, it must be very complex to identify these things and must be subject to wide speculation. However...

...intuitively, I think to organize in hierarchies (patriarchy, chiefs, chief of chiefs, kings, presidents, etc.) which is a coordination function, and trait which must have hundreds of millions of years, must be very effective in small groups, but not so perfect at large scales.
