It can't work as joule is not a fungible unit. A joule value depends on the location where it is consumed.
It's utterly silly. If joules were the measure of value, we'd all become splendidly wealthy by flying spaceships into the sun and immolating ourselves.

Flying into the sun is really hard though. You have to completely cancel out your orbital velocity so that you fall into it. Pretty sure people are much more likely to wind up on trajectories heading out of the solar system and get stranded in interstellar space.
