You could double Amazon/Ebay tomorrow. Easy clone scripts. Same for Uber, Eats, etc. Why doesn't it effectively halve, double, or do anything to those companies? Same for btc. Twitter/Instagram/Facebook/Pinterest 100's clones.
That doesn't copy the people communicating or doing business with each other via these networks.
Exactly, nor the talent, trust, secondary stakeholders building into the systems, equipment, capital expenditures 'network value'. It's tiring hearing this same trope of forking/airdropped/cloned value.
So is the contention that forks and shitcoins were never attracting some capital/systems/developers that might have otherwise significantly driven up the value of bitcoin or other functional networks?
Of course they attract attention. Just like the Pinterest/eBay clones. But a similar network isn't enough! POW makes this process of promising "the same but better' nearly impossible. Broken 'governance' & slow 2change = FEATURE.
IMHO they attract the type of attention and developers that NEED to be in those testnets. I heard developers as a business. Core attracts and keeps some of the best multidisiplined devs I've seen! The air is thin at this level. The most unstable and greedy(?) tend to fork off.
