It's just so odd to me how the editorial side of media companies seem never to understand where the money in their checks comes from.
Great point. Like many organizations that cater to or influence strangers, they are structured to behave hypocritically. One department views reality one way, another a very different way, creating a hypocrisy very convenient for the organization's propaganda or profit mission.

Independent editorial departments produce quality journalism, which develops loyal readerships with demographic characteristics that attract advertiser and sponsorship investments/partnerships. Revenue is generated. Hopefully income. Nothing hypocritical about it. At all.
