Unfortunately a "gold price rule" in a world of demonetized gold is nothing like a classical gold standard, and not a very good anchor.
For large portions of the world population gold is still mostly monetized, as a store of value and medium of wealth transfer, as well as still being a trust-minimized reserve for central banks.
