Far more likely he got screwed over by Republicans who weren't after the truth but destroying Mueller. The way the questions were formulated were designed to confuse him. Mueller was not properly prepared for this onlaught.
It was a great act by Mueller, to come across like a senile old man to make people feel sorry for him and cover up his malicious dishonesty.
