I think there is a Bitcoin Maximalist community and also a community of content creators / conference speakers.

This distinction is better. I just recall Beautyon getting riled about there not being a "Bitcoin Community".

Never really understood the idea of there being "No bitcoin community." I think some want to give the term a much stricter definition than it actually has but it just means a group that has something in common, especially if it forms a network of interaction in some way.

Already words for this: "group", "set", etc. Before PR people got ahold of the word "community" it meant groups of people who regularly talk to each other. Unless you have a better word for this concept we need to keep using "community" in this crucial traditional sense.

I'm curious, bc I respect your work immensely but our social politics diverge significantly (tho I try to keep an open mind) - if I onboard a bunch of queer liberal weirdos to enthusiastically adopt bitcoin, would you consider them part of "the community, " in this definition?

I will say it again until I'm hoarse, there is no "the community." It's very undesirable to exclude anybody from using Bitcoin, indeed quite by design we cannot even in situations where most might want to, and I quite welcome them and everybody else who wants to to use it.

Thank you for this uplifting opinion, and for your amazing technical contributions. I meant it when I said I try to keep an open mind- I read news that you retweet & try to understand its perspective. I never want to be "sure" of my stance cos that means I've stopped learning.

Even though many people have various political motivations for using Bitcoin, using it beneficially certainly doesn't require believing me or anybody else who uses Bitcoin on any particular issue. And there are tons of issues that are roughly orthogonal to Bitcoin.
